Application
Responsibility
Research projects which are to be assessed by the Ethics Committee of the University of Vienna have to fulfil one of the following conditions:
- Projects within the University
- Third-party funded project at the University of Vienna
- Doctoral/PhD thesis (after public presentation at the faculty)
- Master's thesis/diploma thesis (submission only possible by supervisor or a study law body)
The Ethics Committee of the University of Vienna CANNOT become involved in the following projects:
- Projects which are not based at the University of Vienna and therefore do not fulfil the above-mentioned criteria
- Projects which have already begun or have been concluded
- Projects for which other ethics committees are responsible (e.g. Ethics Committee of the Medical University of Vienna)
Submission
- Application form incl. documents (e.g. participant information/declaration of consent, questionnaires) as a PDF at least one month before the meeting date by e-mail to ethikkommission(at)univie.ac.at.
- Please always use the current application form (as of January 2025). Templates (DE/EN) can be found (with university-internal access authorization) in the wiki.
Forms / Templates
Documents
- The submitted PDFs form the basis for discussion and decision-making by the Ethics Committee.
For a timely assessment
- Short, interdisciplinary presentation of the study contents.
- Participant information/declaration of consent that can be understood in layman's terms with information on the purpose, process, inclusion/exclusion criteria, benefits, risks, use, storage and deletion of the data; Please note that this is an exemplary list that must be adapted individually.
- Declarations of consent for children in child-friendly language.
- Compliance with data protection guidelines.
Data retention: Unlimited storage of completely anonymized data is sensible and harmless.
Processing
- On the last day of the submission deadline, a formally complete application must be submitted. Supplementary documents may be added; however, this may result in consideration at a later meeting.
- Applications submitted by the deadline will be dealt with within the next two sessions; treatment in the immediately following meeting is sought, but is not guaranteed.
